The Grounds: 18.5 acres of private playground
Pigeon Lane is the name of the original roadway that ran through the property. A homestead was built on land adjacent to the lane in the mid-19th century. Although the old house is no longer standing, a number of interesting old apple trees, some lovely chestnuts, and a variety of spruce and pines are pleasant reminders of this earlier era. A tramp through the woods that edge the property leads to a restful glade, a babbling brook and a trout pond. Many varieties of bird twitter and chirp all around you; and from time to time an Osprey eagle can be seen diving for trout.
The property, which cannot be seen from the road, includes open green fields surrounded by woods. Our neighbours keep horses and it's almost as much fun to watch them graze and gallop in the distance as it is to spy diving Osprey. When you come to The Wheatley River Getaway, you rent more than a house, you rent a lovely corner of Prince Edward Island.
